Jindřich Halabala, from 1930 the chief architect of United UP plants, had a major influence on the shaping of the company's production program, participated in product development, advertising and sales strategy. His vision of quality housing and furniture that is elegant in form, perfectly crafted, flawlessly functional, composable and variable, yet accessible to the broadest segments of the population, remains an inspiring and timeless legacy. The second, expanded edition of the publication comes fifteen years after the first, prepared for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Brno architect, designer and theorist. The richly illustrated publication, awarded in 2004 in the Gloria musealis competition, is dedicated to one of the most interesting personalities of furniture design of the interwar period and provides the first comprehensive assessment of his work and the activities of the United UP factory in Brno in the 1930s. At this time, the company was one of the largest and most progressive furniture factories in the then Czechoslovakia, and products bearing the UP brand were synonymous with quality and good taste.
