Prague Fashion Salons (1900-1948)

This narrative monograph traces the history of the most important Prague fashion factories, such as the salons of Hana Podolska, Oldřich Rosenbaum, Arnoštka Roubíčková or František Bárta, and presents the development of fashion in the period 1900-1948. We follow the development of the tailoring craft, its transformation into applied art, the spread of world fashion and the transformation of the tailors themselves from craftsmen into artists and merchants. The publication depicts the extraordinary fates of salon owners against the backdrop of groundbreaking historical events.
