"The Odyssey table is part of the Eclecticism collection, in which I explore the relationship between history and the present. Each table in the collection is loosely inspired by an artistic style, style or era from the past, while also referencing a personality closely associated with that era. Odyssey is loosely inspired by the work of Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik, whom I consider to be an archetype of a timeless personality, artist and visionary." The process of making the table itself is technically very demanding. This hexagonal table is made entirely of aluminium and steel alloys. The legs are made up of a set of tubes that are fitted with metal-printed elements, a technique whereby a flat material that is clamped to a lathe is shaped by pressure into the desired form. The edge of the table top is decorated with a cut that is created by waterjet cutting. It is a fine detail that has arisen naturally and is related to the nature of the material and the manufacturing process. I enjoy working with the contrast of proportions. I create proportional tension between the thin table top and the base. My intention is to achieve a sophisticated harmony. Not by way of reduction and minimalism, but rather to achieve it in richness, complexity, variety and tension. It is like in nature, where seemingly unbalanced proportions create a harmonious whole."
