Baruch's wide range of artistic imagination led him to create small decorative objects and shape toys. The bird-whistle is a unique toy with many uses. An important inspiration came from folk toys and motifs, which, in the 1920s, combined with geometric carving ornament or bright polychrome with small-scale décor, were the Czechoslovak response to the fashion for polychrome rusticized artefacts of international Art Deco.

Academic painter Jožka Baruch was born on 28 July 1892 in Krásno nad Bečvou. He graduated from the State Vocational School for Woodworking in Valašské Meziříčí as a figure and ornamental carver.
